<br />
<br />
Authentic to Marie-Antoinette's Petit Trianon, this stew stove is a lovely example of an 18th century advancement that saw cooking move from a cauldron at the hearth to a stove with individual fireholes. These stoves allowed for a variance in temperature when cooking in a variety of pots.<br />
<br />
In this Second Life version, hexagonal tiles grace the top while burnished dark bronze doors are fit for a queen's kitchen.<br />
<br />
Touch for the HUD to turn the fire (low-lag animated) and the sound on/off. Please note that these scripts are copy only.<br />

<br /></div>
How time flies! It's been more than six months since my last journal entry; apparently I've been so engaged playing that writing rather fell by the wayside.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Shortly after the last journal entry, back in June, the focus of our farming in the Queen's Hamlet switched over to using the brand-new Household (HH) functionality. Anastasia, Duchesse de Coeur, stepped in as the QH HH Owner and we adapted our production strategies to better suit our HH needs. <br />
<br />
I'm glad to say that controlling the scope of our endeavours proved to be a wise decision. Our QH HH has slowly grown to include seven members, a size that seems to be easily sustainable even during times of transition. It's always good to keep in mind that this active roleplay is for fun!<br />

Experience the joys of baking with this delightful bread & cookie making kit. Mix ingredients, knead dough for bread or roll dough for cookies and when you're all done baking enjoy a slice of fresh bread or a beautiful snowflake Christmas cookie. Lots of little details help add to the overall experience; bread steams when rezzed then cools as it sits, rolling pin pops off the counter into your hand as does the mixing bowl and wooden spoon.<br />

I'm absolutely delighted to be back working on the kitchen of the Petit Trianon. The floors are scrubbed, the ceiling is mended and the doors no longer squeak when opened!<br />
<br />
Here's a look at the real deal:<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GG2sJNnSIh0/Xg-rWmRAWMI/AAAAAAAAE4I/ommmJbvVMFU3wvrWDzOZ8lzsK4dem46JACLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/6-0809_we_petit-trianon_debise-150-weekend-monuments-322031.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="360" data-original-width="540" height="425" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-GG2sJNnSIh0/Xg-rWmRAWMI/AAAAAAAAE4I/ommmJbvVMFU3wvrWDzOZ8lzsK4dem46JACLcBGAsYHQ/s640/6-0809_we_petit-trianon_debise-150-weekend-monuments-322031.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<div>
<br />

<br /></div>
And here's the start to my Second Life version:</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<br />
It's no secret that one of my greatest pleasures in Second Life is creating and out of all the ways you can create graphic design is really what I love the most. I'm seldom happier than when I'm researching and putting together something as simple as labels for virtual jars of jam or honey.<br />
<br />
I have spent many happy hours "down the rabbit hole" searching for inspiration as my ever-expanding Pinterest sections, such as <a href="https://www.pinterest.ca/tatianadokuchic/graphics/labels/" target="_blank">Graphic Design-Labels</a>, can attest. I'm also inspired by my creative Second Life friends who share the same passion and produce their own mini-masterpieces on a regular basis.<br />
<br />
It took me a number of weeks to come up with the labels pictured above, much of that time spent drooling over Redouté engravings and other examples of ephemera. If I'm not careful I find that pixel editing can become a bit of an obsession.<br />
<br />
I'm also delighted when Second Life intersects Real Life in an almost whimsical fashion. Some weeks after creating my own label for the Queen's Hamlet honey the<i> Chateau of Versailles</i> released the following <a href="https://www.facebook.com/chateauversailles/photos/a.90344918673/10157717320603674/?type=3&theater" target="_blank">Miel de Trianon</a> on their Facebook page.<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OkGN-HfnjMs/XfJeKfiYSoI/AAAAAAAAE28/XV_QefPXnZwinILbBQTDwNu8IvhB1uJFgCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/Honey%2Bof%2Bthe%2BTrianon.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1066" data-original-width="1600" height="426" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-OkGN-HfnjMs/XfJeKfiYSoI/AAAAAAAAE28/XV_QefPXnZwinILbBQTDwNu8IvhB1uJFgCLcBGAsYHQ/s640/Honey%2Bof%2Bthe%2BTrianon.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<blockquote class="tr_bq">
<i>"The honey of Trianon, available for the first time on the online shop of the Palace of Versailles! Produced by the beehives of the Queen’s Vegetable Garden as part of an ecological approach. With delicate flavours of lime, summer flowers and chestnut."</i></blockquote>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Life is sweet!</div>

Claire's Cottage is a lovely little side-project that I've been working on for ages. Creating just the right mixture of vintage & contemporary furniture & accessories has not only kept me busy but has provided a different perspective from the antiques that I usually slave over.<br />
<br />
I'm not sure when the building itself is going to be ready, but I'm pleased to be packaging up some of the associated furniture sets including the Fireside Furniture Set and the Complete Bathroom Set.<br />

<br />
Here's a project that I've been meaning to release for awhile now; a set of five decorated milk churns perfect for roleplay or home decor.<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-knGM2UhWbVs/WRSHW1VAPMI/AAAAAAAAETU/MolfTui63Cwn1-eF1pgdbworKUImDKbxgCLcB/s1600/QHC%2BPhoto%2B01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="364" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-knGM2UhWbVs/WRSHW1VAPMI/AAAAAAAAETU/MolfTui63Cwn1-eF1pgdbworKUImDKbxgCLcB/s640/QHC%2BPhoto%2B01.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<span style="background-color: #fefefe; color: #222222; font-family: "arial" , "helvetica" , sans-serif; font-size: 13px;"><br />
</span> I've been using the "Lait de Chevre" design myself for over a year now as a G&S vendor for the Queen's Hamlet Co-op and have enjoyed them so much that I've added four other designs to make a versatile set.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CrCdYskdxCA/WRSKtMdlZ_I/AAAAAAAAETg/1R2CUc3YtJ8OedT0vlukIIB7DayoR8mBgCLcB/s1600/TTR-Milk%2BChurn%2BSet%2BMP%2B03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-CrCdYskdxCA/WRSKtMdlZ_I/AAAAAAAAETg/1R2CUc3YtJ8OedT0vlukIIB7DayoR8mBgCLcB/s640/TTR-Milk%2BChurn%2BSet%2BMP%2B03.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
They are highly detailed mesh with a Land Impact=1 for each churn at its current size.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xp0WMOWJSMU/WDx94FgMd5I/AAAAAAAAEHc/vATp1ASUYAgjDtkeZvMeIl_mo5ZNRjzKgCLcB/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Chasing%2BJane%2BAusten%2B01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-xp0WMOWJSMU/WDx94FgMd5I/AAAAAAAAEHc/vATp1ASUYAgjDtkeZvMeIl_mo5ZNRjzKgCLcB/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Chasing%2BJane%2BAusten%2B01.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Having first discovered Jane Austen as a child means that I've been pursuing her for many years now. I distinctly remember being enchanted by the fairy tale aspects of <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0141439580/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0141439580&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=26d0f1bc2b3d356c9879c6abe88eccd0" target="_blank">Emma</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=0141439580" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" />; beautiful heroine, dashing hero, wealth, luxury. etc, etc. I also remember trying to figure out what the heck a "fortnight" was.<br />
<br />
Her penchant for happy endings was also appealing.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
All-in-all I perceived Austen's world as something very "Disneyfied" where beautiful damsels were aided by kindhearted helpers something like <a href="http://disney.wikia.com/wiki/Mice_(Cinderella)" target="_blank">this</a> ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qCLlM5lQxQs/WDyHTN8_PoI/AAAAAAAAEH0/Fh64tPb39voRf3PueSzSw9ID9LO6ncsfwCLcB/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Chasing%2BJane%2BAusten%2B02.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="474" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qCLlM5lQxQs/WDyHTN8_PoI/AAAAAAAAEH0/Fh64tPb39voRf3PueSzSw9ID9LO6ncsfwCLcB/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Chasing%2BJane%2BAusten%2B02.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It wasn't until much later that I came to appreciate the real grit of Austen's writing. I rediscovered <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002RI9HCK/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B002RI9HCK&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=0d69e2bdd0ed86a6395c79bc250c6fc2" target="_blank">Pride and Prejudice</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=B002RI9HCK" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> and <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0141439661/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0141439661&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=27f59194d580e802115624be9d256122" target="_blank">Sense and Sensibility</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=0141439661" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> only because they came as free content on my first eBook. Turns out that the reality underlying the fairy tale can often be a bit grim and I can now appreciate how Austen's delicious irony manages to reveal a wealth of social hypocrisy, highlight the plight of women being dependent on marriage for economic security, and be most entertaining at the same time. No mean feat that!<br />
<br />
Having reestablished my relationship with Jane I chased through the rest of her portfolio and, eager for more, started branching out.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/0345806972/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=0345806972&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=eca43adfa8fdd09c81b8189adfbda872" target="_blank">Longbourn by Jo Baker</a><span style="border-color: initial; border-image: initial; border-width: initial;"><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=0345806972" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /></span>, a tale told by the servants of <i>Pride and Prejudice</i>, kept me in the world of the Bennets while emphasizing that those "kindhearted helpers" previously mentioned were actually flesh & blood servants with difficult lives of their own.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tDlKczTIelQ/WDybeeou5yI/AAAAAAAAEIM/jjYa8P8z6pEiIOLRfWFcSsovrIKt3B-RgCLcB/s1600/TatianaDokuchic%2BChasing%2BJane%2BAusten%2B03.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="496" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-tDlKczTIelQ/WDybeeou5yI/AAAAAAAAEIM/jjYa8P8z6pEiIOLRfWFcSsovrIKt3B-RgCLcB/s640/TatianaDokuchic%2BChasing%2BJane%2BAusten%2B03.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I'll never again think of Elizabeth Bennet walking purposefully through the mud to visit her sister Jane without considering the grueling work of the laundress to clean her clothes afterwards.<br />
<br />
<a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/1594743347/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=1594743347&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=e40010017955b4eed930103ecb89b75c" target="_blank">Pride and Prejudice and Zombies</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=1594743347" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> was actually a whole lot of fun. I haven't seen the <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BI75VX4/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B01BI75VX4&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=d7ae6bc2e75c0a848af623a190db5356" target="_blank">video</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=B01BI75VX4" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> yet but I most enjoyed reading about the Bennet women and their slaying skills. Where Austen used words against her foes Elizabeth can now use a sword!<br />

It was lovely to catch up with these old friends and see what they've made of their lives after the "happily ever after".<br />

<br />
When it comes to Skyrim, I'm definitely a homebody and not a wanderer. I know from experience that being homeless is painful; having to haul ingredients and travel to forges, alchemy & enchanter stations; having to sell my loot immediately. As I mentioned in my <a href="https://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2016/11/skyrim-se-demure-dragonborn-level-01_14.html" target="_blank">last post</a>, one of my first priorities this time around is building a home, adding all the amenities and then sticking to it.<br />
<br />
I choose <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lakeview_Manor" target="_blank">Lakeview Manor</a> for its beautiful location. The most southerly of the three homes that can be built, it's also close to my favourite town, Riverwood, and city, Whiterun. Living in real-life Canada, I appreciate a place that's as far away from snow as possible!<br />
<br />
I did hear rumblings that Lakeview Manor was also the most dangerous location for a home but I turned a deaf ear and went ahead and bought my plot. After all, being the Dragonborn should mean being able to defend your home, shouldn't it? Shouldn't it?! More about fending off various attacks later ...<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TrIuXF_clS4/WDNsvr-dl0I/AAAAAAAAEE8/ef44Ysd6QLcVnUSf9t9YRkgq2fzqYPspgCLcB/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Lakeview%2BManor%2B02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TrIuXF_clS4/WDNsvr-dl0I/AAAAAAAAEE8/ef44Ysd6QLcVnUSf9t9YRkgq2fzqYPspgCLcB/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Lakeview%2BManor%2B02.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<h3>
Saving, Spending & Skills</h3>
Being house-hunger means that I currently hoard most of my gold so there's no spending on training or fancy gear. My first "big" purchase was hiring Marcurio as a follower so that I could drag him to the marriage altar. I made those 500 coins back in five days from my share of profits from our store.<br />
<br />
My next big purchase was the lot for Lakeview at 5000 coins. Now my first time around I was building a house came much later in the game when I had money to burn and so I blithely purchased fully furnished rooms from my steward. This time, money is tight and I'm building everything myself which does have a lot of benefits skill-wise as well.<br />
<br />
Most of my money goes into buying iron ore, logs, and filled Petty Soul Gems.<br />
<br />
Smelting iron ore and then using the ingots for building components is a great way to increase Smithing skills.<br />
<br />
I disenchant most of the enchanted loot that I find to increase my repertoire of enchantments. I then use the Petty Soul Gems to enchant regular weapons & armor. Not only does this quickly increase Enchanting skills but the resale value of the newly enchanted items is much better.<br />
<br />
I actually find this much more satisfying/productive than the old "make a million iron daggers & enchant them" scenario and when I run out of loot it's time for another quest!<br />
<br />
My finally source of crafting income is of course my potions. Growing ingredients in my garden saves a lot of foraging time and I'm increasing my Alchemy skills all the way to the bank.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-avCqBJ7zP30/WDNuGy1HzcI/AAAAAAAAEFE/y91EZxhfEQoUtvCpC2fC_nzNEgXnvb0vACLcB/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Lakeview%2BManor%2B03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-avCqBJ7zP30/WDNuGy1HzcI/AAAAAAAAEFE/y91EZxhfEQoUtvCpC2fC_nzNEgXnvb0vACLcB/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Lakeview%2BManor%2B03.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
<h3>
Defending Hearth & Home</h3>
<b>Skeevers in the Cellar:</b> I wasn't sure if I actually wanted a cellar as I prefer Smithing outside but what the heck, might as well add it on while I'm building the Main Hall. Just after completion, Marcurio starts complaining about "noises" in the basement. Since he's supposedly a bad-ass Spell Sword you'd think he'd take care of it but ohhhh noooo. Down I go to clear out the vermin. Post skeever massacre I read that if you leave the one "good" skeever alive you won't ever be infested again. Reload a previous, save, and voila a pet skeever is now protecting the cellar.<br />
<br />
<b>Bandits in the Hall:</b> Day one post construction finds Marcurio & I staggering home after another successful quest. Lydia is out mining iron and we pass her on the way into the house where we're immediately attacked by a group of bandits. I guess since she's a steward and not a housecarl, Lydia didn't think it was her problem though a warning really would have been nice. <br />
<br />
The loot gathered from the bandits was welcome, their dead bodies blocking the entrance way was not. I've since become Thane of Falkreath and added <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Rayya" target="_blank">Rayya</a> as our housecarl. Keeping my fingers crossed that she'll do a better job at defense than Lydia.<br />
<br />
<b>Dragons on the Doorstep:</b> Day two post construction I step outside to watch the sunrise but instead I'm greeting by an ice dragon. Lydia & Marcurio help me take it down. Rinse and repeat for day four post construction. Though I'm profiting from their bones & scales, I'm really hoping the flying lizards don't show up every second day. At least with the addition of Rayya the take down should go a bit faster.<br />
<b><br />
</b> <b>Giants in the Animal Pen?:</b> I've yet to experience an attack by giant, perhaps because I haven't added any animals to my homestead. One poor soul recounted how he actually had to move from Lakeview because of the never-ending stream of giants. Likewise, no wolves or marauding mages. Whew!<br />
<br />
<h3>
Mods</h3>
I used <a href="http://www.nexusmods.com/skyrimspecialedition/mods/849/?" target="_blank">Lakeview Garden Extended</a> to increase my garden size so that I could plant & harvest more crops.<br />
<br />
<h3>
Cheats</h3>
Cheats/ <a href="http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Console" target="_blank">Consule Commands</a> are activated on your PC by typing ~ (located on the key under the Escape key). I'm not big into cheats but in some circumstances they can save you a lot of frustration.<br />
<br />
I needed some Moonstone to build an Arcane Enchanter so after searching every merchant I knew and coming up empty, I used the following to add Moonstone (ID=0005ad9f) to my inventory<br />
<br />
Syntax: Player.AddItem <ID> <#><br />
Example: Player.Additem 0005ad9f 2<br />
<br />
<br />
"Have you seen Lydia?" is a bit of a Skyrim running joke with a kernel of truth behind it. I definitely left her safe and sound in <a href="http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Dragonsreach" target="_blank">Dragonsreach</a> but when I went to retrieve her for a move to Lakeview Manor as my steward she was nowhere to be found. I waited a full day and when she still didn't show up I cheated.<br />
<br />
Syntax: MoveTo Player <npc id=""></npc><ID><br />
Example: MoveTo Player 00a2c94<br />
<br />
<b>I'm delighted to have a place to hang my hat with the Main Hall, Entry Way, Cellar & Alchemy Tower completed. I'll looking forward to adding furnishings and new wings as my adventure continues.</b><br />
<b><br />
</b> <b>I'm curious about your building experiences. What house do you consider to be Skyrim's best? What are your favourite house mods? Do you have trouble defending your abode?</b><br />

<br />
I love the open world of Skyrim and all the vastness of its possibilities. Unfortunately, as I mentioned in my <a href="https://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2016/11/skyrim-se-demure-dragonborn-level-01.html" target="_blank">previous post</a> I'm "a bit of this - a bit of that" kind of person. In my first go-around I found myself spread too thin with regards to my character build and it became a tad confusing. This time I've narrowed down my focus to those things I really love and though I'll probably never follow one of the character archetypes I know it's going to be a lot of fun.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Defining My Style</h3>
<div>
Given that I've identified myself as the "Demure Dragonborn" it shouldn't come as much of a surprise that I'd much rather craft than fight. Smithing, Alchemy and Enchanting are not only a pleasure but are going to bring me both wealth and protection.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Speaking of protection, I definitely don't want to wander around Skyrim as a defenseless fool. I also want a modicum of magic in my life, I mean who wouldn't!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I intend to be fleet of foot using light armor with a sword in one hand and spells in the other. I'm also going to rely on my potions & enchanted items to pick up any slack where my spells and/or skills are lacking.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
During my initial researching (something I never even thought to do the first time around) I was pleasantly surprised at the wealth of <i>Skyrim Character Builds</i> that are out there. The time & effort people have spent analyzing & documenting their characters is amazing. Hopefully I've managed to incorporate some of the best ideas into my own strategy.</div>
<div>
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /></div>
<h3>
Race</h3>
<div>
I'm going with <a href="http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Breton" target="_blank">Breton</a>; human & magical at the same time, not too big & not too small but, as Goldilocks might say, just right. I also appreciate their "proficiency in abstract thinking". If I'm going with brains not brawn that should definitely help.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Magicka: Health: Stamina is 1:1:1</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Standing Stone</h3>
I'm starting out with <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Mage_Stone" target="_blank">The Mage Stone</a> but may switch over to <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Lord_Stone" target="_blank">The Lord Stone</a> after my magicka training is well underway.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Skill Set</h3>
<div>
A wonderful aspect of Skyrim is that no matter what race you choose, your character is open to A LOT of refinement through the skills that you choose. Here's what I plan to work towards for Level 58. We'll see if I change my mind along the way.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
SMITHING: Steel, Eleven, Advanced. Glass</div>
<div>
ONE HANDED: Armsman 5/5, Fighting Stance, Bladesman, Critical Charge, Savage Strike</div>
<div>
LIGHT ARMOR: Agile Defender 5/5, Custom Fit, Unhindered, Wind Walker, Matching Set</div>
<div>
SPEECH: Haggling</div>
<div>
ALCHEMY: Alchemist 5/5, Physician, Benefactor, Green Thumb</div>
<div>
CONJURATION: Novice, Apprentice</div>
<div>
DESTRUCTION: Novice, Apprentice, Augmented Shock, Dual Casting, Adept</div>
<div>
ALTERATION: Novice, Apprentice, Magic Resistance, Adept</div>
<div>
ENCHANTING: Enchanter, Insightful Enchanter, Corpus Enchanter, Extra Effect.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<h3>
Followers</h3>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
You gotta have friends!! This is especially important if your fighting skills. like mine, are a tad weak. Also, hauling all that loot around gets tiresome and followers make excellent pack mules.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
As soon as possible I'm going to hire and then marry<a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Marcurio" target="_blank"> Marcurio.</a> He's an imperial destruction mage who knows how to keep out of the way in a fight. We were married in my previous life and I loved how I could wander the fields picking flowers while he blasted the wolves into bits. The daily home cooked meal, <a href="http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lover's_Comfort#Lover.27s_Comfort" target="_blank">lover's comfort</a>, my share from his store, and ability to buy merchandise at home are also grand.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Speaking of keeping out of the way in a fight, my experience with <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Lydia" target="_blank">Lydia </a>was that she was always running ahead and getting herself killed forcing me to restart to keep her alive. Nevertheless I've developed a soft spot for her and intend to make her my personal steward.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Finally I'm going to need a housecarl because someone has to defend the homestead when I'm away!</div>
<h3>
<br />
Home Sweet Home</h3>
<div>
By now you've probably figured out that my favourite add-on is <i><a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Hearthfire" target="_blank">Hearthfire</a>. </i> My first go-around (before <i>Hearthfire</i>) saw me taking the tradition route of living as a wanderer before buying Breezehome and eventually expanding my real estate from there. I ended up with most of the Skyrim city properties as well as Lakeview Manor.<br />
<br />
Being homeless was painful; having to haul ingredients and travel to forges, alchemy & enchanter stations; having to sell my loot immediately. I'm definitely a homebody not a wanderer.<br />
<br />
Moving items from one house to the next was painful. Who knows what I left in various barrels & boxes along the way.<br />
<br />
This time things are going to be simple. One of my first priorities is building a home, adding all the amenities, and then sticking to it. I'm definitely looking forward to seeing how my garden grows!<br />
<br />
<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>So that pretty much sums up my initial strategy. I'll keep you posted on developments along the way as I start to level-up the with <a href="https://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2016/11/skyrim-se-demure-dragonborn-level-05.html" target="_blank">next installment </a>being all about Lakeview Manor. </b><br />
<b><br />
</b> <b>In the meantime, I'd love to hear about your own adventures & experiences. Have you ever play a more "demure" character? How did it go?</b></div>
<br />

"Although there exists a plethora of Dutch 17th-century cityscapes, none are able to transport the viewer back in time and convey the material sense of water, air, brick and mortar as much as Vermeer's <i>View of Delft</i>. When we stand in front of this picture it is almost as if we had been projected in a time capsule to the southern ramparts of Delft's city gates in the early 1660's"</div>

Which is exactly why I picked this Vermeer masterpiece as the banner for <a href="http://livinghistoryvw.com/" target="_blank">Living History via Virtual Worlds</a>. What a wonderful way to provide some amazing atmosphere for a social network dedicated to historical adventurers! Imagine yourself talking to those people on the river bank, exploring the city, or boarding a ship for destinations unknown.<br />

<br />
While <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Johannes_Vermeer" target="_blank">Johannes Vermeer</a> (1632-1675) specialized in "domestic interior scenes of middle class life", the <i>Girl with the Pearl Earring</i> being an excellent example, Delft was Vermeer's hometown and <i>View of Delft </i>is one of three known paintings in which the city is featured. His painting technique is said to be meticulous including the use of grains of sand mixed with some of his paints to provide additional texture. Using a limited choice of pigments and <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pointillism" target="_blank">pointillism</a> he created "probably the most memorable cityscape in western art".<br />

It's also fascinating to delve into Vermeer's possible use of mechanical aids like the camera obscura. <br />
I was sorely tempted to call this <i>Skyrim SE: More Brains than Brawn</i> but though I'm certainly not playing a "brawny" Skyrim character it still remains to be seen how "brainy" I turn out to be.<br />
<br />
Here's the backstory.<br />
<br />
I've once again found myself waking up in that cart, bumping down the road in Skyrim that's heading towards my execution. I've been here once before, back in 2011 when <i>The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim </i>first came out, and the whole experience was a bit of a hot mess.<br />
<br />
Apparently though I spend a considerable amount of time in<i> Second Life</i>, a true gamer I'm not. I'm clumsy, hate killing things, and would rather spend my days crafting than hunting down vampires. I loved being immersed in the world of Skyrim but was rather overwhelmed by it all. According to my statistics, I played 170 hours, reached level 37 and unlocked 24/75 achievements before I threw in the towel.<br />
<br />
When the <i>Skyrim Special Edition</i> came out in October I saw an opportunity to start again, using my hard-earned knowledge to create an experience more conducive to a "demure" Dragonborn. I thought I'd blog a bit about this endeavour in the hope that it might encourage others of my ilk, if only by illustrating what not.<br />

Back in 2011 my PC barely made the minimum. Fortunately, I've upgraded since then and though not quite at Recommended with my graphics card, I'm well above the minimum. It makes a huge difference. No more getting blown out of my boots by an incoming dragon before I even had the chance to turn around to see it!<br />

If you are going this route you will also need an <a href="https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ZB7W4QU/ref=as_li_tl?ie=UTF8&camp=1789&creative=9325&creativeASIN=B00ZB7W4QU&linkCode=as2&tag=livinghisto09-20&linkId=8d07858e8016d3efb065c85caef3adae" target="_blank">Microsoft Xbox Wireless Adapter for Windows</a><img alt="" border="0" height="1" src="//ir-na.amazon-adsystem.com/e/ir?t=livinghisto09-20&l=am2&o=1&a=B00ZB7W4QU" style="border: none !important; margin: 0px !important;" width="1" /> for your PC. Installation was surprisingly effortless and my game play is so much better. Remember me mentioning how clumsy I am in-game, well I still walk into the occasional tree but overall my movement is improving at an amazing rate.<br />
<br />
These default <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Controls" target="_blank">Controls</a> will help you get started though the game does a pretty good job of telling you what control to use. I may look into a Mod to provide more functionality (more than 2 hotkeys, print screen etc.) but for now I'm happy just learning the ropes with the default.<br />
<br />
<h3>
References</h3>
My favourite online reference has to be <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Main_Page" target="_blank">The Unofficial Elder Scroll Pages </a> I also Google for quick references. Having said that, I did invest in the official strategy guide since, among other things, one of my worst nightmares is being lost in some dungeon with no clue how to get out. The guide does an excellent job of talking you out of those dark places as well as including nicely detailed maps.<br />
<br />
I enjoy using it to plot my next quest and I've picked up quite a few good tips along the way.<br />
<br />

<br />
<h3>
Strategy</h3>
Speaking of plotting, I love the open world of Skyrim and all the vastness of its possibilities. Unfortunately, given that I'm "a bit of this - a bit of that" kind of person, in my first go-around I found myself spread too thin with regards to my <a href="http://en.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:Character_Creation" target="_blank">character build</a>. It became a tad confusing. This time I've narrowed down my focus a bit to those things I really love and though I'll probably never follow one of the character archetypes I think it's going to be a lot of fun.<br />
<br />
More on strategy in my next installment <a href="https://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2016/11/skyrim-se-demure-dragonborn-level-01_14.html" target="_blank"><i>The Demure Dragonborn Level 01 Strategy</i>.</a><br />

<i>I have not failed on a desert island, but on Second Life . Like me, some haggard and clumsy beginners landed on this strange beach to discover what remains of this game that occupied the headlines there about ten years. I expected to find , a decade later, a deserted world, aging technology and a few cobwebs in the corners.It was exactly the opposite.</i></blockquote>

When I was first contacted to be interviewed for this article I truly didn't know what to expect and I cringed imagining some of the possible outcomes.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
It didn't help that the journalist, <a href="http://www.lemonde.fr/journaliste/morgane-tual/">Morgane Tual,</a> just happened to contact me on April 1st. I had already received an invitation to a new <a href="http://royalcourts.ning.com/forum/topics/join-my-new-rpg-gorean-inspired-marquis-de-sade-s-chateau-rpg-set#.VyI8E_krKUk">"Gorean Inspired Marquis de Sade" roleplay</a> that morning and was on the lookout for more April Fool's fun so when she said she was from <i>Le Monde</i> I took it with a grain of salt.<br />
<br />
I asked her to send the questions via email allowing me time to think before responding. She was probably surprised at my long, essay type answers but I wanted to emphasize the sides of Second Life that members of the <a href="http://royalcourts.ning.com/">Historical Communities</a> often explore (creative, historical, educational, fun, friends etc.) in hopes that some of that flavour would filter through. <br />
<br />
<b>I'm so glad that she actually took the time to venture into Second Life herself and the result is a much more balance piece than the dreck you usually read.</b><br />
<br />
As a bonus, I got to have the last word!!<br />

»</i></blockquote>

Take a look and see what you think. It's in French but the translations (via either Google or Bing) though a bit clunky, aren't all that bad.</div>

<br />
I'm delighted to announce the latest online location of <a href="https://www.kitely.com/market?store=9273690" target="_blank">Tatiana's Tea Room</a> on the Kitely Market!<br />
<br />
I've been busy setting up shop and porting products over from my main store in Second Life. Everything sold from this location will be marked as<i> Export</i> allowing purchases to be transfer to their owners in other grids.<br />
<br />
It really is exciting to be plugged into the Hypergrid!<br />
<br />
Needless to say, it's going to take a while before I really feel established but I feel I'm off to an excellent start. Though there's still a lot to learn, I found the Kitely Market very easy to use and I absolutely love the option of creating product variations.<br />
<br />
Kudos to the Kitely team for making merchandise setup so painless.<br />
<br />
Have you made the jump to the Kitely Market? How did it go? I'm really interested in hearing your stories, tips & tricks. As a newbie I could really use all the advice I can get.<br />

<br />
Taking a moment to enjoy a well-deserved cup of tea in the <a href="http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Provence%20Coeur%20Est/194/118/32" target="_blank">Salon of the Petit Trianon</a> before starting my early spring gardening.<br />
<br />
It's been a very busy winter (which is fading fast in my SL but, alas, is not over by a long-shot in my RL). I'm making good progress on <a href="http://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2015/12/maison-margaux-exploring-classic.html" target="_blank">Maison Margaux</a> and really enjoying playing with contemporary design.<br />
<br />
In my "spare" time I had a lot of fun putting together the shabby-chic <a href="https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/TTR-Louis-XVI-Deer-Chair-Table-Set/8244227" target="_blank">Louis XVI "Deer" Chair & Table Set</a> with it's hot chocolate & snowflake cookies.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-usTO4VCFZ0w/Vq6ElPCV79I/AAAAAAAADqE/W5Mjkup02Yo/s1600/TTR-Louis%2BXVI%2BDeer%2BChair%2B%2526%2BTable%2BSet%2BMP%2B02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-usTO4VCFZ0w/Vq6ElPCV79I/AAAAAAAADqE/W5Mjkup02Yo/s640/TTR-Louis%2BXVI%2BDeer%2BChair%2B%2526%2BTable%2BSet%2BMP%2B02.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
This snowballed into the revamp of all my Louis XVI chairs. I've always loved these chairs and so I'm delighted to be able to update them with more textures & more animations for less LI & less L$.<br />
<br />
The <a href="https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/TTR-Louis-XVI-Petit-Trianon-Chair-NEW/8451113" target="_blank">"Petit Trianon"</a> variety has just been released with plans for more NEW & REDUX in the near future.<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sOm94vAGivw/Vq6HR1a_dwI/AAAAAAAADqY/d9QpTjIZAGc/s1600/TTR-Louis%2BXVI%2BPetit%2BTrianon%2BArm%2BChair%2BMP%2B01.PNG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-sOm94vAGivw/Vq6HR1a_dwI/AAAAAAAADqY/d9QpTjIZAGc/s640/TTR-Louis%2BXVI%2BPetit%2BTrianon%2BArm%2BChair%2BMP%2B01.PNG" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Now I have to go and melt some more snow in Provence Coeur. Soon the tulips & daffodils will be popping up. Can't wait!<br />

<br />
"Surround Yourself with Classic Beauty" has been TTR's motto since my very first days in Second Life. Now as most budding entrepreneurs can attest, choosing a business motto can be serious stuff so I took some time with the selection, wanting something that summed up the "visions of antiques that danced in my head". Antiques & Classic Beauty, now there's a match thought I.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W1vdmafkKGM/VmDLpGVDvZI/AAAAAAAADeg/2n_dqd6NQZc/s1600/Princess%2BMargaret%2BShowhome-Family%252520Room.jpg" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="426" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-W1vdmafkKGM/VmDLpGVDvZI/AAAAAAAADeg/2n_dqd6NQZc/s640/Princess%2BMargaret%2BShowhome-Family%252520Room.jpg" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
When I found myself <strike>seduced</strike> drawn to the dark side (see <a href="http://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2015/11/chasing-judith-finding-caravaggio.html" target="_blank">Chasing Judith ~ Finding Caravaggio</a>), i.e. away from the 18th century and into the 21st, by the <a href="http://www.princessmargaretlotto.com/two/oakville.php" target="_blank">Princess Margaret Oakville Showhome 2015</a> I had to reevaluate my personal definition of "classic". Can contemporary interior design also be considered classic? And what about "eclectic" because if I'm taking a break from 18th century rules there's going to be a whole lot of eclectic going on. All that dynamic tension that comes from pairing a "Louis" chair with a Lucite table is just too good to pass up!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3MDi4rAbX7w/VmC_VXW_GAI/AAAAAAAADeQ/OgwpPFPVAC0/s1600/TTR-MM%2BFMRM%2BSet%2BMP%2B02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="339" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-3MDi4rAbX7w/VmC_VXW_GAI/AAAAAAAADeQ/OgwpPFPVAC0/s640/TTR-MM%2BFMRM%2BSet%2BMP%2B02.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
It's definitely an adventure transitioning to the modern world; so many things that need to be pulled together. Take animations, for example. "Movie night" complete with popcorn is just something you just don't use at Marie Antoinette's Petit Trianon.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bIbc8V3_7Ek/VmGdny57zTI/AAAAAAAADfA/NQTC6fU58GY/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Maison%2BMargaux%2BClassic%2BContemporary%2B03.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="456" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-bIbc8V3_7Ek/VmGdny57zTI/AAAAAAAADfA/NQTC6fU58GY/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Maison%2BMargaux%2BClassic%2BContemporary%2B03.png" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
This one little pose required a lot of effort. First there was the new sofa & television (currently streaming the Pentatonix video playlist), then the bucket of popcorn (modern props have become a bit of an obsession), the updated wardrobe, and last but not least, the guy to share it all with.<br />
<br />
Mikhail was a whole sub-project in himself!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eZ1GNgyoEqE/VmHSe2GQEuI/AAAAAAAADfQ/5B30kZinwBI/s1600/TTR-MM%2BFMRM%2BChair%2BMP%2B02.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-eZ1GNgyoEqE/VmHSe2GQEuI/AAAAAAAADfQ/5B30kZinwBI/s640/TTR-MM%2BFMRM%2BChair%2BMP%2B02.png" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
I guess that I really shouldn't begrudge him the time and L$ that it took to get him photo-ready. After all, he'll sit for hours sipping his cappuccino and listening to me learning the guitar without a word of complaint.<br />
<br />
All this to say that I've been very busy bring my interpretation of Maison Margaux to life and along the way I've come to appreciate that classic & contemporary really do make a lovely combination. Throw in the a dash of eclectic and I think it's a design style that's just as beautiful as my beloved 18th century antiques.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9v5gNsDxG38/VmHafDLKdYI/AAAAAAAADfg/JxCcweHY8qU/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Maison%2BMargaux%2BClassic%2BContemporary%2B04.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="456" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-9v5gNsDxG38/VmHafDLKdYI/AAAAAAAADfg/JxCcweHY8qU/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Maison%2BMargaux%2BClassic%2BContemporary%2B04.png" width="640" /></a><br />
<br />
Now that the <i>MM Family Room</i> is complete, I've opened up a new store dedicated to Contemporary Classics. It's small but it's a start and if you visit it <a href="http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Provence%20Coeur%20Est/150/106/3802" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">inworld</a> you'll find both Picasso's <i>"Seated Woman" </i>and Orazio Gentileschi's<i> "The Lute Player" </i>as store-opening gifts.<br />
<br />
You can also find the <a href="https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/TTR-MM-Family-Room-Complete-Furniture-Set/8154574" target="_blank">MM Family Room Complete Furniture Set </a>on the Second Life Marketplace along with related items sold individually.<br />
<br />
I'll be moving on to the Living/Dining Room and I'm hoping that Mikhail doesn't insist on another new outfit for the photo shoot. At a minimum, I guess I really will have to invest in some shoes as he can't keep wearing those socks everywhere he goes. Or can he?<br />

<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nnwlH8Ob0D8/VjoO_WiK25I/AAAAAAAADYA/hSsMfS8ICLs/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-Chasing%2BJudith%2B01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="236" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nnwlH8Ob0D8/VjoO_WiK25I/AAAAAAAADYA/hSsMfS8ICLs/s640/TatianaDokuchic-Chasing%2BJudith%2B01.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I didn't know her name so I thought of her as "The Woman in Orange". With her striking attire & direct gaze, she seemed familiar; someone I really should have recognized. Nevertheless Judith lead me on a delightful chase before revealing her secrets.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WLIdWbUQ-Ro/VjoRZHAq2SI/AAAAAAAADYM/sc74QN-8fNo/s1600/Princess%2BMargaren%2BShowhome%2B2015Hallway.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="425" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-WLIdWbUQ-Ro/VjoRZHAq2SI/AAAAAAAADYM/sc74QN-8fNo/s640/Princess%2BMargaren%2BShowhome%2B2015Hallway.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
I first glimpsed her in a photo of the hallway of the <a href="http://www.princessmargaretlotto.com/two/oakville.php" target="_blank">Princess Margaret Oakville Showhome 2015</a>. I thought she was stunning. Imagine having a home where she is one of the first things you see coming through the door.<br />
<br />
Unlikely to happen for me in real life but more than feasible in Second Life!<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4hZJrMqJcyM/VjowUaW8N3I/AAAAAAAADYk/I2NKT_VvTg4/s1600/Princess%2BMargaret%2BShowhome%2BLiving%252520and%252520Dining%252520Room.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4hZJrMqJcyM/VjowUaW8N3I/AAAAAAAADYk/I2NKT_VvTg4/s640/Princess%2BMargaret%2BShowhome%2BLiving%252520and%252520Dining%252520Room.jpg" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Through the magic of 3D Architecture, I too could (virtually) enjoy this fabulous Living/Dining Room as designed by Brian Gluckstein. <br />
<br />
First order of business, track down that inspirational piece of art.<br />
<br />
I thought it would be easy but then I saw it described as "Stock Photo" in the Source Guide. "Stock Photo" my eye! Apparently my search was going to be a bit more challenging.<br />
<br />
Time to use some Google-fu.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lQfTPVQoCK4/Vjo0XQfH7tI/AAAAAAAADY0/33XAt4aV_Hw/s1600/Orazio_Gentileschi_-_Lute_Player.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-lQfTPVQoCK4/Vjo0XQfH7tI/AAAAAAAADY0/33XAt4aV_Hw/s400/Orazio_Gentileschi_-_Lute_Player.jpg" width="358" /></a></div>
<br />
My initial search for "woman orange classic painting" turned up a number of likely candidates including <i>The Lute Player</i> by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orazio_Gentileschi" target="_blank">Orazio Gentileschi</a>. I'm no art expert but it seemed to me that I was going in the right direction as far as style & colour were concerned.<br />
<br />
I also remembered Orazio was one of the Italian painters influenced by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravaggio" target="_blank">Caravaggio</a> and I had been fortunate enough to actually see some of his work displayed at the <i>National Gallery of Canada</i> in the exhibit <a href="http://www.gallery.ca/caravaggio/en/index.htm" target="_blank">Caravaggio and His Followers in Rome</a>.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sOUr4g3aANA/VjpBR4SkQYI/AAAAAAAADZI/WZ5pFEG3I34/s1600/Caravaggio%2B%2526%2BHis%2BFollowers%2Bin%2BRome.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-sOUr4g3aANA/VjpBR4SkQYI/AAAAAAAADZI/WZ5pFEG3I34/s400/Caravaggio%2B%2526%2BHis%2BFollowers%2Bin%2BRome.jpg" width="330" /></a></div>
<br />
The works of Caravaggio & Orazio were stunning, but it was the story of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisia_Gentileschi" target="_blank">Artemisia Gentileschi </a>that I found most interesting. Daughter of Orazio, Artemisia<br />
<blockquote>
<i>was an Italian <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Baroque">Baroque</a> painter, today considered one of the most accomplished painters in the generation following that of <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Caravaggio">Caravaggio</a>. In an era when women painters were not easily accepted by the artistic community or patrons, she was the first woman to become a member of the <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accademia_di_Belle_Arti_Firenze">Accademia di Arte del Disegno</a> in Florence.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisia_Gentileschi#cite_note-Gunnell-1">[1]</a> </i></blockquote>
<blockquote>
<i>She painted many pictures of strong and suffering women from myth and the Bible – victims, suicides, warriors.<a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Artemisia_Gentileschi#cite_note-2">[2]</a></i></blockquote>
Artemisia strikes me as a strong woman definitely not to be trifled with. I also think of her as the "head in the basket" painter as her most famous works include <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_Slaying_Holofernes_(Artemisia_Gentileschi)" target="_blank">Judith Slaying Holofernes</a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LxPg8uSBMR0/VjpFlLe-VMI/AAAAAAAADZY/BRAYtp_iDkg/s1600/Artemisia_Gentileschi_-_Judith_Beheading_Holofernes_-_WGA8563.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-LxPg8uSBMR0/VjpFlLe-VMI/AAAAAAAADZY/BRAYtp_iDkg/s400/Artemisia_Gentileschi_-_Judith_Beheading_Holofernes_-_WGA8563.jpg" width="313" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
and <i>Judith and her Maid Servant</i> (take a good look in the basket, that's no kitten she's carrying).</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WscFfSVx9kw/VjpGKpWWHjI/AAAAAAAADZg/g8hi8s0CA6Q/s1600/Artemisia_Gentileschi_-_Judith_and_Her_Maidservant.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WscFfSVx9kw/VjpGKpWWHjI/AAAAAAAADZg/g8hi8s0CA6Q/s400/Artemisia_Gentileschi_-_Judith_and_Her_Maidservant.jpg" width="326" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
My up-close-and-personal viewing of this painting had left quite an impression and I began to wonder if the mysterious "Woman in Orange" had any connection. Could she perhaps be Judith?</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
With one further search for <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Judith_beheading_Holofernes" target="_blank">Judith beheading Holofernes</a> I hit pay dirt</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V4071-O8yFg/VjpJHjhWSII/AAAAAAAADZw/i8Lb9od6iI4/s1600/Judith_with_the_Head_of_Holofernes_by_Cristofano_Allori.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-V4071-O8yFg/VjpJHjhWSII/AAAAAAAADZw/i8Lb9od6iI4/s400/Judith_with_the_Head_of_Holofernes_by_Cristofano_Allori.jpg" width="331" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<i>Judith with the Head of Holofernes</i> by <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristofano_Allori" target="_blank">Cristofano Allori</a>. There she was in all her glory holding a severed head!<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
No wonder they went with the caption "Stock Photo". I might find her background fascinating but I can imagine that some might find it a bit off-putting knowing who was actually gracing their dining room wall.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
And so Judith took me on a marvelous journey, from Orazio to Caravaggio to Artemisia to Allori (with a side trip to Picasso but more about that later). </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Along with Brian Gluckstein she also inspired me to tackle my very first attempt at building a contemporary home in Second Life. I'm calling this one <i>Maison Margaux</i> in honour of Princess Margaret of course.</div>
<div>
<i><br />

<div>
<i><br />
</i></div>
<div>
I intend to fill this brand-new abode with some of the fabulous art I've found along the way, not only Judith but <i>The Lute Player</i> and <i><a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pablo_Picasso" target="_blank">Picasso's</a> </i><i><a href="http://www.wikiart.org/en/pablo-picasso/seated-woman-1927" target="_blank">Seated Woman</a> </i>which looks to me like Picasso riffing on Orazio.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I never would have discovered any of this without Judith. Thanks for the chase!</div>
<div>

<div>
Exploring History, Art, and Architecture via a Virtual World indeed.</div>

<b>Great Balls of Fire!! </b> It started out as another beautiful day at the Petit Trianon; sun shining, birds singing, absolutely perfect for the <a href="http://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2015/10/painting-pumpkin-lanterns-at-petit.html" target="_blank">All Hallows' Costume Dance.</a><br />
<br />
The guests started to arrive; some on broomsticks, others just appearing out of nowhere. This being <i>Second Life</i> their chosen means of transportation didn't raise much of fuss (well except maybe for that HUGE spider that scurried in ... not sure where that creature was hiding her invitation and I certainly wasn't about to approach her to ask!). The costumes were fabulous ...<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zLblCLHDQ1A/Vi5a5AL9FLI/AAAAAAAADQw/bCNIlHRfK2o/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-A%2BDance%2Bwith%2BDragons%2B02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="1125" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-zLblCLHDQ1A/Vi5a5AL9FLI/AAAAAAAADQw/bCNIlHRfK2o/s640/TatianaDokuchic-A%2BDance%2Bwith%2BDragons%2B02.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
... and Myron Byron, the DJ, soon had everyone up and dancing. <br />
<br />
Then it happened.<br />
<br />
We heard the terrible flapping of their wings before we saw them. The bright, autumn day ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ta5CeRNojLs/Vi5g9yFw5yI/AAAAAAAADRE/tmMEK-lASJg/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-A%2BDance%2Bwith%2BDragons%2B03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Ta5CeRNojLs/Vi5g9yFw5yI/AAAAAAAADRE/tmMEK-lASJg/s640/TatianaDokuchic-A%2BDance%2Bwith%2BDragons%2B03.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
... turned to dark, shadowy night as we scanned the skies for the source of the ground-shaking roars.<br />
<br />
Dragons!!<br />
<br />
They flew amongst us, ready to rend our oh-so-delectable flesh which they would rapidly roast to perfection. Thinking quickly (as many experienced SL party survivors are wont to do) we all banded together to attempt the only proven method (and environmentally friendly, I might add) of fending off a full-fledged dragon attack ...<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d84Au-yXgZo/Vi5lk5tKGiI/AAAAAAAADRg/PUkXSVY9OHw/s1600/TatianaDokuchic-A%2BDance%2Bwith%2BDragons%2B05.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="496" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-d84Au-yXgZo/Vi5lk5tKGiI/AAAAAAAADRg/PUkXSVY9OHw/s640/TatianaDokuchic-A%2BDance%2Bwith%2BDragons%2B05.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
<div><i>... It's just a jump to the left.</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>And then a step to the right.</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>With your hand on your hips.</i><br />
<i><br />
</i> <i>You bring your knees in tight ...<span style="box-sizing: border-box; font-family: , "arial" , sans-serif; line-height: 16px;"><br />

<br />

Apparently dragons just can't resist a good group dance. Go figure! By the time we had finished with <i>Thriller</i> & <i>Ghost Busters </i>we were all fast friends (a major improvement over being fast-food if you ask me).<br />
<br />
With the danger so handily averted, we danced until dawn and when it was time to depart many tired party-goers caught a ride home with their new-found flying friends.<br />
<br />

<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-s42m_gIq1l0/ViFKT5zTYcI/AAAAAAAADOw/5ijSDNi2VE0/s1600/TatianaDokuchic%2BAll%2BHallows%2BDecorating%2B02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-s42m_gIq1l0/ViFKT5zTYcI/AAAAAAAADOw/5ijSDNi2VE0/s640/TatianaDokuchic%2BAll%2BHallows%2BDecorating%2B02.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
While Marie Antoinette had a gaggle of gardeners to prepare the grounds of the Petit Trianon for her elaborate parties, I'm very content to be working away on my own in SL. After all, where else can you get away with wearing an elaborate ball gown while hauling fresh bales of hay!<br />
<br />
My latest adventure in decorating coincides with the <a href="http://royalcourts.ning.com/events/dc-rs-all-hallow-s-costume-dance#.ViFMQH6rSUk" target="_blank">All Hallows' Costume Dance</a> which is being hosted by the <i>Duché de Coeur</i> & <i>Rocca Sorrentina</i> on October 25th. Having decided that the <a href="http://tatianastearoom.blogspot.ca/2012/03/petit-trianon-french-garden-parterre-sl.html" target="_blank">French Garden Parterre </a>would be an excellent spot for a party, I waded in and got to work clearing the summer gardens to start with a fresh canvas.<br />
<br />
<a name='more'></a><br /><br />
Before I knew it, new trees were taking root and autumn leaves were everywhere!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yxI5clxLTeY/ViFPQ7QnkuI/AAAAAAAADPA/piobBRljacM/s1600/TatianaDokuchic%2BAll%2BHallows%2BDecorating%2B01.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="338" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/-yxI5clxLTeY/ViFPQ7QnkuI/AAAAAAAADPA/piobBRljacM/s640/TatianaDokuchic%2BAll%2BHallows%2BDecorating%2B01.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
Kegs of wine & beer appeared as if by magic as did numerous clusters of candles. But what to do about additional "exterior illumination"? Pumpkin lanterns seemed to be the obvious solution but the Marie Antoinette that speaks in my head just didn't approve of our modern-day, orange, jack-o'-lanterns. Something custom would be "oh so much better" said she.<br />
<br />
So I found myself creating a new set of <a href="https://marketplace.secondlife.com/p/TTR-Painted-Pumpkin-Lanterns-01-Burgundy-Gold/7890957" target="_blank">Painted Pumpkin Lanterns</a> with the burgundy & gold colours chosen from MA's dress as worn in the poster and gilded patterns including fleur de lys & laurel wreaths.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vYr2I_VkWDY/ViFSiZFANHI/AAAAAAAADPM/dxrXZTmWSKI/s1600/TTR-Painted%2BPumpkin%2BLanterns%2B01%2BMP%2B02.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-vYr2I_VkWDY/ViFSiZFANHI/AAAAAAAADPM/dxrXZTmWSKI/s640/TTR-Painted%2BPumpkin%2BLanterns%2B01%2BMP%2B02.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
They have a lovely sheen in the daylight and a mellow glow when lit at night.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E0UUaDpwF8Q/ViFUnRyJtVI/AAAAAAAADPY/mGyOckB9SwI/s1600/TTR-Painted%2BPumpkin%2BLanterns%2B01%2BMP%2B03.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/-E0UUaDpwF8Q/ViFUnRyJtVI/AAAAAAAADPY/mGyOckB9SwI/s640/TTR-Painted%2BPumpkin%2BLanterns%2B01%2BMP%2B03.png" width="640" /></a></div>
<br />
When I started the day I never thought I would be painting pumpkin lanterns for the Petit Trianon but it proved to be a delightful decorating detour and with the exterior lighting problem solved I'm moving on to other considerations like "Where do you park a large dragon so that people don't bump into it when they're dancing?". Time will tell!<br />
<br />
As mentioned, the wine & beer are already out so please feel free to drop by for a drink on the <a href="http://maps.secondlife.com/secondlife/Provence%20Coeur%20Est/223/128/29" target="_blank">French Garden Parterre</a>. You may run into me as I continue with the party preparations.<br />
